Modular Overgrown Ruins for Dnd (or other wargames)
This is a set I created recently for a dnd session I am a part of. The set added a huge amount of interactivity to the game, and gave us lots of interesting ideas to try out that we wouldn't normally do. It also made setting up the rooms a lot faster (we normally draw on a wipeable gaming mat which is very convenient and flexible, but the 3D-ness of terrain was a really nice addition and could be sat down to play immediately).
I will be creating a new set of terrain for every dnd session from now on (they are held every week or fortnight, sometimes monthly), and after the session that set will go up for sale. New terrain every session, woo!
This set included:
3x ruined wall sections
6x tiled rubble ruins pieces (detailed with tiles, rubble, fallen pillars, grass/weeds, and two with trees growing in the rubble)
6x ruined columns (three tall, three short)
6x old forest trees
The trees were all done in the same fashion as my Giant Old Forest Tree design, though on a smaller scale - so Hydrocal cast trunk, hand sculpted wire-reinforced branches in rock hard putty, and Custom Terrain's own special tree foliage.
The ruined columns, while fairly simple, were a major asset in encounters. Blocking line of sight, providing light cover, something to climb onto for an elevated position... Reaaally versatile. When placing the modular floor tiles down you can also lay the columns down in any gaps created between tiles to hide any spaces, and they look like collapsed columns.
The modular floor sections are really handy - they introduce a bit of tactics into the game as they funnel troops in certain directions (the rubble areas are counted as impassable or very difficult terrain in our games) and create interesting layouts.
The wall sections are handy if you need something a little bigger than the columns. They make nice perches for archers or mages for example, and provide full concealment at ground level.
The entire set is available for sale for $220.00. This is a website only price and does not include postage costs (if you are international and interested, that is fine, I can ship overseas).
Due to small parts, this set is not for children. Due to the intricate and detailed nature of the terrain, i'd recommend it for dedicated gamers 16+ (ie/ it probably would be lost on your 8 year old nephew who started playing last week..)
This set will also soon be made available on ebay, though I'd encourage you to order from my site so you pay less.. ;)
A video of the session will be put up on youtube so you can see how we went about using the terrain!
SOLD!
